Before you start any type of marketing for your business it’s important that you have a plan in place so you know where you are heading and how you are going to get there. This is no different for social media marketing; you need to create a plan and most importantly a GOAL(s).
Things you should think about before you start using social media for your business?
Will I have the time to put the effort in to social media?
You must decide whether you have the time to manage your social media accounts because as with social media and other marketing techniques you have to go at it full steam and keep on top of it or not bother at all. It takes a lot of time, effort and skill to create a great social media account that’s interesting and attracts fans.
Who will manage my social media for me?
If you think that your business would benefit from social media such as a Facebook page or Twitter account and you do not have the time, why not hire someone to take care of it for you, outsource it to an agency or ask one of your staff members to do it. If you are a small business and don’t necessarily have the team or budget to pass it on to someone else then I am afraid it’s down to you.

Are my customers on social media? If so, what channel?
One of the most important key points to think about. Are your customers or potential customers on social media? The answer to this is yes, most probably but what social media channels are they on? You may find that if you are a B2B company then LinkedIn and Twitter are where you will find your customers and B2C companies will benefit more from Facebook, Pinterest and Instagram.
What do I post on my Social Media?
As you know variety is the spice of life, right? So you should also know that different types of posts will make your page more interesting. So you now know the types of content that you will post; images, videos, links, articles, quotes etc. but how do you make them interesting? Inject a bit of your companies personality into your post. Why not develop your own videos and create your own images?
What time do I post on my Social Media?
The only way you will find this out is by testing it. Try posting every day at different times of the day for a few months; you can use Facebook Insights to see what time of day most of your fans are online. It doesn’t really matter how many times a day you post but don’t overcrowd your fans newsfeed and be consistent.
What is my overall goal for my Social Media strategy?
Working with many different businesses we have found that each business has a different goal that they want to achieve from their social media marketing. You may have just one or several goals, these could be; increase in visitors to your website, increasing your brand awareness, increase your sales, increase in inquiries and so on.
