Supporting young people in Suffolk

STEM Ambassador

STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths and as I am a Biology graduate who also works in the Technology industry I thought I would be the perfect ambassador…well that is not the only reason, as a youngster I didn’t have a clue of the kind of jobs that were available to me after I left school, so I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to pass on my wisdom (that makes me sound old) to young people in Suffolk.

STEM Events

The kind of events I attend are career fairs and workshops such as helping youngsters with their interviewing techniques. I really enjoy talking to the students and finding out what they think about finding a job once they have left school and it’s surprising to find out that most of them are unaware of the kind of jobs that are out there. If there is one thing that I can take away from these events is knowing that I have at least given them some hope that there are jobs out there of all different types they just need to work hard and keep searching for them.

If you think you could become a STEM Ambassador, please go to their website http://www.stemnet.org.uk/content/ambassadors/whoareambassadors

Another reason to join STEM is that you make a lot of contacts in all different types of businesses so make sure that when you attend STEM events to take a lot of business cards with you as you never know, they could help you to get more business.
